Hallowed Be Thy Name

 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

The Lord’s prayer. Most of you know it. Memorize it, even. I sure do. I had to learn this prayer as a child. I recited it every night before falling asleep. It was my routine.

A few months ago, I decided to really  take my time and pray this prayer. Line for line, I prayed, using Jesus’ model of how to pray. I made it personal. It was as if I was praying that prayer for the first time in my life (even though I’d prayed it literally hundreds of times).

Thinking I was only going to study the prayer, I sat with my notebook to write everything out. What I ended up doing was writing out my prayer. I’ll share some of it with you. I’ll change the point of view for the sake of this post.

OUR FATHER

He is our God (Psalm 63:1). He is our father. We were adopted by Him, becoming a member of His family through Christ (Ephesians 1:5). He chose us to be his children before we were even created. He is our father who we can call out to for anything, about anything (Romans 8:15). He made us His own. As our father, He is our caretaker, our example, our teacher, our disciplinarian, our protector, defender, provider, our counselor, the one in whom our security lies. He is where we find love and comfort. He is the one who holds our hand and guides us through life, yet allows us to make our own decisions. He is our father.

IN HEAVEN

He is in heaven, His kingdom. Yet here with all of us, His children. He is omnipotent. We may not understand the full extent of how marvelous heaven is, but I can only imagine how wonderfully perfect it must be.

HALLOWED BE YOUR NAME

He is the most holy one. His name is holy and sacred. May it remain that way.  There is power in His name. May others get to know His name and call upon Him. All glory and honor goes to Him.

YOUR KINGDOM COME

The time will come when He will make a new heaven and a new Earth. When every knee will bow to Him. There will be no more death, no more sorrow, no more tears. He will come. His Kingdom will come. He has already started by sending His son to die for us and leaving the Holy Spirit with us. May His kingdom come. And may we experience parts of His kingdom now. We are predestined. His plans for our lives started in the Kingdom. May it come to fruition on Earth.

YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN

May His will be done. He is in full control and He knows what He is doing. May His will be done in the lives of all people. Not our will, but His. May we be given the wisdom and understanding of His will and be able to accept it. May His perfect plans come to pass. What ever He set forth in heaven, may it be done here (blessings, healing, fulfillment of purpose, etc).  His will, in His time. He will keep us, as He fulfills His will.

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BREAD

God is our provider. We depend on Him to meet our needs. We don’t know what could happen, at any moment in any day. Something can occur that would make basic necessities scarce. But God is our provider. Our father who feeds us, clothes us, and keeps us sheltered. We need Him. Everything comes from Him. This also includes a daily word from Him to feed our spirits.

AND FORGIVE US OUR SINS AS WE FORGIVE THOSE WHO SIN AGAINST US

His word says that if we don’t forgive others, He won’t forgive us (Matthew 6:15). I wrote about that in this post . So, we have to truly forgive others from our hearts. We ask God to reveal any unforgiveness we are harboring. In this way, we are not causing any hindrances in our lives. We have to soften our hearts and walk in forgiveness.

AND DON’T LET US YIELD TO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM THE EVIL ONE

There are so many temptations that the devil uses to lead us astray. However, He can’t make  us do anything. God’s word says there is nothing that the devil uses to tempt us that Jesus did not experience himself. He also won’t allow us to be tempted beyond what we can handle. He promises to give us a way out ( 1 Corinthians 10:13). We have to be strong, endure, and resist. He can/will help us with that if we allow Him to.

FOR YOURS IS THE KINGDOM,

THE POWER, AND THE GLORY

FOREVER, AMEN

The Lord’s prayer truly is powerful. I mean, Jesus Himself gave it to us. Take your time with it, pray it, and transformations  will take place.

Stay Blessed.
